🥟 How to Steam Frozen Dumplings (The Easy & Juicy Way)
Ideal for:
First-timers who want juicy, tender dumplings with no fuss. This works for any frozen dumplings—pork, prawn, chicken, veg—you name it!
🧂 What You’ll Need:
-
Frozen dumplings (no need to defrost)
-
A bamboo steamer, metal steamer, or pot with a steaming rack + lid
-
Baking paper or cabbage leaves
-
A pot or pan to boil water
🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Line Your Steamer
Line your steamer with:
-
Perforated baking paper, or
-
Cabbage leaves or parchment circles
This prevents sticking and keeps dumplings intact.
📝 If using a metal steamer, lightly oil the base if you don’t have liners.
2. Boil Water in a Pot
Fill your pot or wok with a few inches of water (below the steamer base).
Bring to a rolling boil before adding the dumplings.
3. Add the Dumplings
Place frozen dumplings in the steamer basket in a single layer.
Make sure there’s a little space between each one so they don’t stick together.
4. Cover & Steam
Cover with the lid and steam over boiling water for 10–12 minutes.
🔥 Don’t lift the lid while steaming or you’ll let out the heat!
5. Check for Doneness
The wrapper should look glossy and slightly translucent. The dumplings should feel plump, and the filling should be hot all the way through.
🍽️ Serve & Enjoy
Plate immediately and serve with your favourite dipping sauce.
🥣 Quick Dipping Sauce:
Mix together:
-
1 tbsp soy sauce
-
1/2 tbsp vinegar (black or rice vinegar)
-
A few drops of sesame oil
-
Optional: chilli oil or fresh chilli slices
đź’ˇ Tips for First-Timers:
-
No steamer? Use a metal colander or sieve over a pot of boiling water with a lid on top.
-
Use parchment with holes punched out for airflow if you don’t have cabbage leaves.
-
Great paired with soup, noodles, or just a dipping sauce for a quick meal.
